Photographer David Hoffman arrested and held in police cell at Bethnal Green 27 April 1987. While photographing a young Asian man being assaulted by police at a demonstration against Tower Hamlets racist housing policies Hoffman refused to stop photographing and was arrested. Later, after refusing a caution, he was released without charge. Hoffman warned the chief inspector at the police station that he would not be taking action against the Met on this occasion but any repetition of such assaults would lead to legal action for damages.
